Working Together for Nature: Kroschu supports conservation efforts in the Offenstetten Nature Reserve
Following last year’s successful first Sustainability Day, during which the BUND Naturschutz Abensberg, among others, presented its valuable work in the region, we are pleased to have now taken the next step: actively supporting a joint environmental initiative. As part of this collaboration, dedicated employees from Kromberg & Schubert participated in conservation efforts in the Binnendünen Nature Reserve near Offenstetten. The initiative was organized by BUND Naturschutz in cooperation with the Kelheim Landscape Conservation Association (VöF).
The goal of the efforts was to preserve the unique living conditions of this special natural area. To this end, the dune areas were cleared of moss, humus, leaves and pine needles to expose the characteristic sandy surfaces. In addition, the volunteers removed branches and twigs left behind after previous forestry work. The effort was carried out entirely on a voluntary and unpaid basis – a strong sign of active responsibility and sustainability.
A unique habitat in Southern Bavaria
The sand dunes near Offenstetten and Siegenburg form a truly special natural area: together with a former limestone quarry, they provide living conditions for both sand-loving and limestone-loving plant species within a very small area – a rare combination in Southern Bavaria. This habitat, formed after the last ice age, is now home to around 70 animal and 350 plant species, including many endangered ones. These include, for example, the blue-winged sand grasshopper and the so-called antilion, whose larvae dig characteristic funnels in the sand to catch prey.
Our contribution matters
We are proud that a group of our employees actively supported this important initiative. Such initiatives demonstrate how we not only think about sustainability but actively live it.
